Takadate Gikeido

Takadachi is a hill located to the east of Chuson-ji Temple, and is also called Hangandate. Although it is now narrow due to erosion by the Kitakami River, this area has been considered a great strategic point since the Kiyohira era. At the top of Takadate is Yoshitsune Hall, which was built in 1683 by Sendai Date Tsunamura, and a statue of Yoshitsune is enshrined inside the hall. If you look at Takadate from the opposite bank of the Kitakami River, you will see Gikeido Hall on top of the hill surrounded by trees. It has an atmosphere as if Minamoto no Yoshitsune, the general of Hakko, is standing there.

Kushoji Temple

It is said that Yoshisato Minamoto, a member of the Genji clan, had his residence in Tashiro, and that Yoshitsune and his servants, who had escaped from Hiraizumi, stopped by on their way north. There is a waniguchi dedicated by Yoshisato's wife, Genji Okoma.

Choanji Temple

A temple of the Otani sect of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism that was built approximately 900 years ago in the city. It is one of the most famous temples in Tohoku and is a branch temple of Higashi Honganji in Kyoto. The original building was destroyed by fire, and the current one was later rebuilt. Among them, the Sanmon gate is approximately 20 meters high and is made entirely of zelkova, and the Taiko-do hall was built approximately 270 years ago in the style of Momoyama architecture.

Iwate Prefectural Public Hall

It was built in 1927 (Showa 2) to commemorate the marriage of Emperor Showa. At that time, the modern structure with its exterior decorated with brick attracted attention in Tohoku, and even in today's government district, which is lined with modern buildings, it still catches the eye.

Shigemo Peninsula Takashi Gasaki

Shigemo Peninsula is a peninsula that juts out to the east of the city. Takagasaki, located about an hour's walk from the Aneyoshi campsite, is located at 142 degrees 4 minutes 21 seconds east longitude and is the easternmost point of Honshu. There is the Torigasaki Lighthouse, which was the setting for the movie ``How Many Years of Joy and Sorrow'' was filmed. It takes about 50 minutes by car from Miyako Station to Aneyoshi Campsite. (You cannot go to Takashi Gasaki by car.)

Shigari Wake Shrine

Nicknamed Akaishi-san since ancient times, he has been widely revered as the guardian deity of industrial prosperity, river and maritime safety, and traffic safety. A large red stone that is said to be the origin of the word Shiwa Town is enshrined in the temple grounds. The approach to the shrine is lined with large cherry trees, and among them is the 700-year-old matchmaking cherry tree, the Minami-no-zakura, which attracts a large number of visitors in the spring.

Shounji Temple

This is the family temple of the Tamura family, which was moved from Iwanuma to Ichinoseki in the 2nd year of the Tenna era. There is also a Tamura Memorial Hall exhibiting materials related to the Tamura family. There is a collection of Buddhist scriptures, a mausoleum for Hoshoin, the mother of Date Hyōbu Munekatsu, and in a quiet area, there are graves of generations of the Tamura family. There are also monuments in the precincts commemorating Wasan master Yushichi Tanehide Chiba and Western medicine scholar Seian Takebe.

Jodogahama Beach

The name Jodogahama was given about 300 years ago by Reikyo, the seventh head priest of Joanji Temple in Mt. Miyako, who exclaimed, ``It's just like the Pure Land of Paradise.'' In 2001, it was selected as one of the top 100 scented landscapes, and in 2006, it was selected as one of Japan's 100 best bathing beaches, specially selected by the sea section.

Takohama Beach

A beach made of dark brown conglomerate that contrasts with the white rocks of Jodogahama. It is located behind Jodogahama Beach and is not very noticeable, making it a little-known spot. Many holes created by seawater erosion can be seen in the rocks on the coast. In addition, the coastline itself is beautiful and is a lively beach for local children in the summer. It is located about 15 minutes along the promenade from Jodogahama Beach. *There are no plans to open the sea in 2020.

Tateai neighborhood park

Tateai Neighborhood Park is a 12,355 square meter park located on a hill overlooking the city. Located in a scenic location, this park has about 90 Yoshino cherry trees in full bloom from mid-April to late April. The entire park area is filled with a lively atmosphere as a cherry blossom viewing spot for citizens.

Kyukamura Rikuchu Miyako

Located in Anegasaki, Sakiyama, it has 80 rooms, accommodation for 300 people, a campsite, and sports facilities such as tennis courts. For those who can wake up early in the morning, we recommend walking around the dormitory.

Miyako City Fish and Vegetable Market

A market filled with fresh seafood and processed seafood caught off the coast of Sanriku, as well as vegetables grown by local farmers. In addition to the many shops lined up, farmers' mothers sell their specialty vegetables in the central plaza. It is also known as the kitchen of Miyako citizens, and is an exchange market full of humanity. We will also package and ship it for you as a souvenir.
